KETO | Day 10 – Why do the Low Carb Keto Diet Long Term | Finding Your Why

Welcome to day ten, where we will talk about finding your why so you can stick with the low carb keto diet long term. It’s a very personal thing, finding your why, and I talk about my why in this video.

Thinking about these kinds of things is part of the plan to move you towards eating low carb keto. In 14 days we will take 7 easy actions that make it possible and prepare you to give low carb a go! Getting our mind engaged with our desire to eat low carb keto is super important, and finding your why will keep you focused and centred on the reasons why you are choosing the low carb keto diet. Not for just now, or next month, but for the longer term.

MISSED SOME DAYS

If you missed day one, the first action is back here. There are also two introduction videos. Part A is here and part b is here. Then all the other days up to day ten and beyond will be here.

FIRST… WHY BOTHER TO FIND YOUR WHY

Why bother to find your why? Well, we all need a why. Why do we get up each day, why do we do what we do? Because it matters. So to keep yourself focused on the low carb keto diet longer than a few months we want to uncover your why.

WHAT’S YOUR WHY FOR EMBRACING THE LOW CARB KETO DIET

Your why will be different to my why. There might be similarities if you are a 53 year old post menopausal woman with teen boys, a NZ husband and a spotty dog. But, trust me there will be differences. One of my why’s is that I don’t want to rely on food anymore to dampen my emotions.

Now you will have to watch this little video to find out my other whys and why I think there are three levels to the why question. More on the levels of why after the video.

WHY DO THE LOW CARB KETO DIET – LEVEL ONE

So why are you here? Your level one why will be your immediate response to that question. Finish this sentence … I am doing the low carb keto diet to … with any of these answers and that’s a level one why.

  • lose weight
  • get a better body
  • look better
  • look hot in a swim suit
  • get in shape for that beach holiday

These are fine whys, but let’s go beyond level one and find a level two why.

WHY DO THE LOW CARB KETO DIET – LEVEL TWO

The level one why examples I gave are all fleeting. You lose the weight, then what? You have that beach holiday and then what? The motivation associated with these whys is not going to give you the stick factor. The stick factor will make you want to stay on the low carb keto diet longer.

So think a bit more about it, then come back with your level two whys. After the holiday/weight loss/better body then what?

So my level two why was health related. I got scared, I was frightened and fear is a good motivator. Maybe your level two why might include health issues you have, health issues you want to avoid, a genetic predisposition to some horrid thing that you do not want. Excellent, well not excellent that you are worried, scared or frightened, but excellent that you now have a why with more at stake then just a desire to look good. Looking good is fine, not being ill is better.

WHY DO THE LOW CARB KETO DIET – LEVEL THREE

Before we jump into level three, let me just be clear, all levels are wonderful. There is no ‘wrong’ level. But, it’s a good thing just to pause and find your level three why. Why on earth would we low carbers give up jam donuts, hot chocolate and marshmallows and hot chips/french fries. Because we can. Because we are no longer under the spell of carbs and sugar. Because we value ourselves more than a short fix of sweetness and carb gratification.

Some level three whys may be ….

  • to be your best version of you
  • to live the longest life
  • to have the most energy
  • to be free of pain, addiction and emotional drama
  • to think clearly, perform at a higher mental level and to gain clarity
  • to live your best life free from the shackles of see-sawing blood sugar levels
