Cheap and Easy

Mess Level – medium

When we lived five hours drive from Mt Isa – yes in Burketown – I did a lot of craft with my boyos. So just sharing one of those now so that those of you staying home to stay safe with younger kids can have some fun. COVID19 can’t kill the joy if we don’t let it.

Reminder – these are NOT FOR EATING. Decorations, people, decorations.

You will need:

  • 2 cups salt – we used the coarse cooking salt type because it was cheapest – but it gave a great texture
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 5 cups plain flour
  • food colouring – any colours you like
  • shape cutters or cookie cutters
  • glitter or other adornments that can withstand heat

Just mix all at once with your hands and it is done. Divide into portions and colour as you like.

We glittered some up pre bake – make sure you squish it in fairly firmly as it does not adhered well. If you want to hang them put a hole thru before baking.

Set the oven at 150 degree celsius and bake for 30 – 45 minutes depending on the thickness of the shape. Cool and then add string. Hang, give, send as you see fit.

We did Christmas themed ones and attached them to the tree, baking gifts and presents.
